Gina Rinehart, a Mining Magnate, recently sold three Kimberley’s ruby plains and Nerrima Stations for almost $100 million. The deals were made to two well-known farming families by Australia’s largest property owner. The properties for sale are Aroona, Willeroo, Riveren, and Inverway in the Northern Territory, and Nerrima, Ruby Plains, and Sturt Creek in Western Australia. The stations are part of Australia’s second-largest beef cattle industry, with much of its expansion in the Northern Territory and Western Australia occurring in the last six years.

Sale of Ruby Plains station in Australia

Ruby Plains is one of the first sales transactions from Hancock Agriculture and S. Kidman & Co’s announcement in April that they will sell down eight properties totaling 1.9 million hectares to focus on other agricultural and livestock prospects.

Mr. Oldfield’s first attempt into Western Australia is Ruby Plains. He added the 324,000-hectare Maryvale Station, 107 kilometers south of Alice Springs, to his Central Australian landholdings two years ago. A total of 10,000 cattle were sold for $15 million. Maryvale lies 60 kilometers southeast of Alice Springs, next to Mr. Oldfield’s Deep Well Station, which covers 1641 square kilometers.

Nerrima Station

Nerrima Station, with over 15,000 head of cattle, was also for sale on a walk-in, walk-out basis. Johnathan Emanuel, the buyer, is a member of the well-known Emanuel family, which has a long history in the Australian cattle industry. These properties may take a long time to sell as the rainy season approaches. However, the first three assets sold, Ruby Plains Station and Sturt Outstation, as well as Nerrima Station, have already generated a $100 million profit.
