The National Farmers Federation (NFF) Vice President, David Jochinke, discussed the trajectory of Australian agriculture and its pursuit of a $100 billion Australian farmgate output by 2030 at the NFF Towards 2030 Forum in Darwin. Jochinke highlighted both favorable “tailwinds” and challenging “headwinds” impacting this goal.

Jochinke pointed out that elements such as land values, commodity prices, the La Niña weather pattern, digital connectivity, and environmental considerations are driving the growth of national agricultural productivity. Conversely, significant challenges like labor shortages, input supply and pricing issues, biosecurity risks, trade uncertainties, ag production, and environmental regulations are acting as hindrances.

The NFF’s roadmap towards achieving the $100 billion goal encompasses various aspirations. These include positioning agriculture as Australia’s most trusted industry, striving for 50% renewable farm energy sources by 2030, ensuring that 90% of family farms for agriculture production have well-documented business plans including succession strategies, achieving zero farm fatalities, and expanding the available workforce by 25%.

In terms of figures, Australian agriculture saw a peak of over $90 billion in 2019–20, while the NFF, five years ago, projected a $84 billion value by 2030. However, projections for 2023–24 indicate a potential drop to around $65 billion due to drier seasonal conditions, after which recovery is expected.

There are many agricultural professionals providing help for this plan to enhance the sector of agriculture in Australia like Entegra Signature Structure. They provide farm sheds, farm machinery, and equipment services to the farmers to secure their land or production.

About the conclusion Jochinke’s presentation coincided with the Northern Australia Food Futures Conference, shedding light on the dynamic landscape of agricultural production in the country. This aligns with the NFF’s concerted efforts to steer Australian agriculture towards enhanced productivity and a substantial contribution to the national economy.
